Bukom Banku: Bukom youth not lazy

Popular boxer Braimah Kamoko, widely known as Bukom Banku, has spoken out against the perception that the youth in the Bukom area of the Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra Region are lazy.
He refuted these claims, asserting that the youth in Bukom are ambitious but are only faced with lack of opportunities.
In an interview on Class 93.1 FM's morning show, hosted by Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang on Friday, August 16, 2024, Bukom Banku clarified that the young people in Bukom area are hardworking individuals, many of whom venture out to sea to fish to make a living.
He pointed out the challenges they face, such as the scarcity and high cost of premix fuel, exacerbated by the economic conditions under the Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia-led administration has compounded the situation for the Bukom youth.
"It is not true when people say the youth of Bukom are lazy," Bukom Banku stated.
He emphasised that many young people in the area are contributing to the nation's development despite the lack of job opportunities.
He highlighted the need for more employment options in Bukom area, explaining that not everyone can rely on fishing as a livelihood.
"If I don't want to engage in fishing, there should be something else for me to do, but those opportunities are not available in the Bukom area," he stressed.
Bukom Banku concluded by reiterating that the youth of Bukom are eager to work when given the chance, but the opportunities they seek are simply not there
