Asantewaa: Ghanaian woman eyeing Guinness World Record via 117-hour singing
The Chief Executive Officer of ASKOF Productions, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, has revealed she aims to break a Guinness World Record (GWR) this festive season.
Asantewaa is eyeing a singing marathon, ‘singathon’, record.
Currently, the Guinness World Record for the longest singing time is 105 hours, held by Sunil Waghmare. The Indian clinched the record with a performance between March 3 and 7, 2012.
For her attempt, Asantewaa has explained, via social media, she will be singing only Ghanaian songs, by way of promoting music from her country of origin.
The entrepreneur and women empowerment advocate also stated the record time she is targeting.
“I am looking at doing 117 hours to break this record, and I am making this attempt by promoting and doing only Ghanaian songs from Gospel, Highlife, Hiplife, among others. The attempt is going to happen this December,” she said.
From December 24 to 27, 2023, Asantewaa will display her vocal endurance and seek the fruit of her determination.
Per GWR rules, she can repeat a song only after every four hours. Also, whatever piece she sings must not be less than or exceed two minutes.
With official recognition by GWR office in London, it is anticipated, Asantewaa would need more than 3,000 songs in her arsenal for a successful attempt at global acclaim.
Since 1955, the British reference book, Guinness World Records, published annually, spotlights mindboggling acts by humans and phenomena observed in the natural world.
