Americans 'appreciate' stars for 'paying their dues' more than Ghanaians: Opanka
US-based Ghanaian rapper Opanka has recounted a time when he was given free massage services because of his stardom.
He spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo.
According to Opanka, he once went to a massage parlour in the US and during his time there, his friend disclosed he was a music star, showing some of the rapper’s works online to an executive at the establishment. He said the executive promptly came to show her appreciation and admiration.
“She said she couldn’t charge me for the service but would only ask me to post a picture she takes of my time there,” Opanka said.
The rapper and singer noted in the US, “big and popular people” are “appreciated unlike in our country”.
“When people in the US see a star, they make you feel you’ve paid your dues and you’ve done a good job,” he added.
He said he had been given rousing receptions because of his status as a music star “so many times.
“The respect they have for you skyrockets.”
The Hiplife star added, “it’s an amazing feeling” anytime his anonymity is broken and people find out who is in America.
People is Opanka's new song.
