In a significant development, the Minister for Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced that ten companies have expressed interest in bidding to complete the long-stalled Saglemi housing project in the Greater Accra Region.

 Originally valued at $200 million, the project was aimed at providing affordable housing for Ghanaians but was left incomplete with only 1,506 units partially finished.

The Minister revealed that the interested companies include both local and international firms, all of which have inspected the project site.

 These companies are currently preparing their proposals in response to a government-issued request for proposal (RFP).

The deadline for submission of bids is set for July 8th, after which the proposals will be evaluated to select a winner.

"The selected company will be responsible for completing the remaining 1,354 units and making the project operational," said Minister Oppong Nkrumah.

He emphasized the government's commitment to finishing all incomplete housing projects, with Saglemi being a top priority.

The Minister also addressed concerns about looting and vandalism at the Saglemi site.

Last year, officials from the Minority caucus reported extensive damage and theft of fixtures, lights, windows, and other materials.

In response, the police have made several arrests related to these incidents, and the Ministry is collaborating with law enforcement to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

"A comprehensive dilapidation report has been compiled," added the Minister, "and this will be factored into the final negotiations with the winning bidder."

The government aims to quickly select a contractor and resume work on the project, bolstering security to prevent further incidents.

Minister Oppong Nkrumah reaffirmed the government's dedication to completing the Saglemi housing project as part of a broader effort to address the housing needs of Ghanaians.

 The project, once completed, is expected to significantly alleviate the housing shortage in the country.

The Ministry's proactive steps towards reviving the Saglemi project highlight a renewed focus on infrastructure development and housing provision, promising positive outcomes for the citizens of Ghana.
