President Mahama announces seven-member committee to plan National Economic Dialogue

In line with his commitment to convening a National Economic Dialogue (NED) as part of his 120-day Social Contract with Ghanaians, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed a seven-member NED Planning Committee to oversee preparations for the forum.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Ishmael Yamson, includes Dr. K.Y. Amoako, Prof John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong and Ernest De-Graft Egyir.
Their mandate is to plan and coordinate the upcoming dialogue, which is expected to shape economic policies aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s economy.
The National Economic Dialogue will serve as a platform for stakeholder consultations and discussions on Ghana’s pressing development challenges.
The dialogue aims to achieve the following key objectives:
Communicate the true state of the economy to stakeholders and the Ghanaian public.
Develop a homegrown fiscal consolidation programme to guide national budgeting.
Highlight critical structural reforms and policy priorities to reset the economy and foster high growth, inclusion, and resilience.
The committee has been given four weeks to submit a comprehensive report covering essential aspects of the dialogue’s organization. The report will outline:
Agenda Setting: Defining topics and themes in alignment with the dialogue’s objectives.
Speaker and Panellist Coordination: Identifying and inviting experts in economics, energy, and agriculture to participate.
Logistics Management: Arrange venue selection, transportation, and other logistical requirements.
Session Facilitation: Organizing panel discussions, workshops, and breakout sessions, while coordinating moderators and rapporteurs.
Documentation and Reporting: Recording the proceedings and compiling policy recommendations.
Communications Plan: Developing and implementing a strategy to promote and disseminate information about the dialogue.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable economic reforms through broad-based stakeholder engagement.
The National Economic Dialogue is expected to set the tone for Ghana’s economic recovery by promoting policy clarity and building consensus on key reforms needed for sustainable development.
