The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has provided a detailed explanation of how it intends to execute its key economic policies.

The party, outlined its plan for the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy, should its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, win the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024.

This strategy was revealed during the party’s manifesto launch at the University College of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, provided a detailed explanation of how the NDC intends to execute its key policies.

The 24-hour economy plan involves a three-shift system, with each shift lasting eight hours, aimed at maximising productivity and efficiency.

This approach is expected to transform Ghana into an import substitution and export-led economy, while also enhancing access to public services and creating well-paying jobs for the unemployed.

According to Dr. Forson, the next NDC government is determined to "stop the economic decline and restore stability and inclusive growth to the economy."

A key aspect of this plan includes providing opportunities for experienced banking professionals who lost their jobs during the recent banking sector collapse, allowing them to regain their careers and move away from menial jobs they were forced into.

The NDC also plans to abolish what it describes as the "obnoxious e-levy" and to review the levy imposed on bet winnings. The party aims to ease the heavy tax burden on Ghanaian households and businesses by improving revenue through several measures.

These include savings from a reduced size of government, a strengthened anti-corruption fight, fast-tracking the operationalisation of new oil and gas wells, increased investment in the mining sector, and a revitalised cocoa industry.

In addition to these economic strategies, the NDC has pledged to decongest the city of Accra by relocating certain ministries out of the central business area. This initiative will emphasise agriculture and agribusiness, with a strong focus on empowering Ghanaians to own and operate their micro-enterprises.
