Ghana's push for Alumina refinery to boost bauxite industry
The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) is advocating a new alumina refinery in the Nyinahin-Mpasaaso forest, citing the insufficient capacity of the current Ghanaian refinery to handle discovered bauxite deposits.
In a meeting at the Jubilee House with President Nana Akufo-Addo, GIADEC CEO Michael Ansah emphasised the potential for maximising profits from Ghana's abundant bauxite resources through the proposed refinery.
Mr Ansah revealed plans for the commencement of the construction of the refinery in 2024, aiming for a significant 2 million-ton alumina refinery.
GIADEC, in collaboration with Rocksure, explores partnerships with external investors for this ambitious project.
Initiating investor engagement processes, Mr Ansah stated, "We are looking to commence development next year, and the refinery solution is also being developed in tandem."
