Fuel tanker drivers to receive improved remuneration from July 1

Starting Monday, 1 July, 2024, fuel tanker drivers in Ghana will begin receiving appropriate remunerations as outlined in a newly agreed-upon policy framework.
This development comes in response to a strike held by the tanker drivers on Tuesday, 21 May, 2024, which brought to light several concerns regarding their compensation.
Deputy General Secretary of the General Transport Drivers and Chemical Workers Union of the TUC, Francis M.K. Sallah, announced the resolution.
He confirmed that all stakeholders, including employers and regulators, have reached a consensus on the details of the framework.
“We met on the document because other stakeholders involved indicated that there are other portions in the document that need a bit of clarity. We have cleared many of the doubts in the document. Inclusive of it is employer-employee relationships. That must be adhered to,” Mr. Sallah explained.
The new agreement not only addresses salary concerns but also seeks to improve the overall employer-employee relationship within the industry.
Mr. Sallah highlighted the importance of clarity and mutual understanding in the implementation of the new framework.
“We would finish this and ensure that parties are clear on all aspects. And then by the end of June, all data of the tanker operators and their assistants would be captured. That is before the end of June, to ensure that effective 1st July, all the tanker operators and their assistants will receive their monthly salaries and other allowances that are required,” he added.
