FBN Bank presents ₵20K to 2022 Green Ghana project
The Head of Commercial Banking of FBNBank, Mr William Armoo Neequaye, has praised the government’s flagship afforestation exercise dubbed Green Ghana Project.
According to Mr Neequaye, the Green Ghana initiative, which focuses on planting trees to protect and restore Ghana’s vegetative cover, is a laudable move by the government which must be embraced and supported by all Ghanaians.
Making a donation of GHC20,000 on behalf of FBNBank on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, Mr Neequaye explained that a Bank of Ghana regulation enjoins his outfit to contribute to a program that aims to protect the environment.
He said that the recent rise in flooding in the country could be attributed to the lack of trees in the capital. He noted that this development positions the Green Ghana project as a strategic and commendable initiative that will help solve the flooding situation in the country and safeguard the environment.
He vowed the commitment of the bank to the 2022 Green Ghana project saying the bank and its staff will be actively involved in the June 10 exercise.
The Technical Director of Forestry, Mr Joseph Osiakwah emphasized the need for financial institutions to support the Green Ghana project.
He recognized the move by FBNBank and called on other financial institutions in the country to emulate the gesture.
The Coordinator of the Fundraising Committee of the 2022 Green Ghana project, Madam Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko disclosed that the Ministry has obtained the needed seedlings for the exercise which is scheduled for Friday, June 10 2022.
She, however, asserted that the government will need the support of corporate agencies and benevolent Ghanaians to transport the seedlings and get them to the places where they will be planted.
She applauded the Bank for the gesture which she reckons will add to achieving the ambitious target for the exercise.
The 2022 Green Ghana Project is set for Friday, June 10 and the government has targeted 20 million trees to be planted nationwide.
