Bosome-Freho CMS to create 4000 jobs for the youth – Mireku Duker
Mr George Mireku Duker, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, and in charge of Mining, is rallying the residents of Bosome-Freho to support the newly-launched Community Mining Scheme (CMS), citing its potential to drive socio-economic development in the area.
With the anticipated creation of over 4,000 direct and indirect jobs, Mr Mireku Duker emphasised that maintaining unity among residents and strict adherence to mining regulations will pave the way for significant infrastructure development in the region.
Addressing the youth at the launch of the CMS on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, the deputy minister dispelled the notion among locals that the innovative Community Mining Scheme is a glorified version of the globally condemned and destructive galamsey menace.
He stressed that, unlike galamsey, the CMS is designed to have no adverse impact on the environment and water bodies.
The government, he assured, through the distribution of mercury-free machines, ensures that mineral exploration in these concessions poses no threat to the environment and the collective interests of Ghanaians.
Mr Mireku Duker highlighted the success of the CMS, evident not only in job creation but also in attracting interest from other countries, including South Africa, South Sudan, and the UK, among others, who are studying and considering implementing similar schemes in their respective nations.
He emphasided that the CMS is exclusively for Ghanaians, with the benefits intended for the local residents in these mining communities.
The Deputy Minister envisions that funds generated from CMS operations can be utilised for developmental projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people.
Mr Mireku Duker also cautioned against the smuggling of gold from Ghana, underscoring the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) as the sole authorised agency for grading, assaying, valuing, processing, buying, and selling minerals, as well as licensing agents in Ghana.
