A/R: Asokwa Municipal Assembly empowers PWDs with business start-up support

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has taken a significant step towards empowering persons with disabilities (PWDs) by providing start-up capital and essential tools to help them establish their own businesses.
This initiative aims to enhance the economic conditions of PWDs, allowing them to live with dignity and independence.
The Assembly also covered medical expenses and school fees for 12 and four PWDs, respectively.
Beneficiaries of the initiative received a variety of start-up tools and equipment, including hairdressing machines, carpentry tools, barbering equipment, and refrigerators, among other essentials.
According to Mr. Dickson Frimpong, the Municipal Director for Social Welfare and Community Development, a total of 39 PWDs have benefited from this initiative, which was made possible through a support fund sourced from the PWD Common Fund, amounting to GHS130,000.
Mr. Frimpong emphasised the significance of this support, stating that it is designed to help PWDs enhance their businesses and improve their overall quality of life.
Akwannuasah Gyimah, the Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the tools and equipment provided.
He encouraged them to generate income not only for themselves but also for their dependents, highlighting the broader impact of the initiative on family welfare.
Madam Gifty Afi Wetsi, the Common Fund representative for the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations in the Municipality, commended both the government and the Assembly for their unwavering support.
She noted that the assistance received has played a crucial role in reducing the number of PWDs begging on the streets of the Municipality, marking a significant step towards their integration and empowerment.
