Stolen BRVs: Bi-partisan parliamentary probe non-negotiable-Omane Boamah
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for a bi-partisan parliamentary committee to investigate the loss of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits at the Electoral Commission (EC).
Dr. Boamah emphasized that the EC must provide answers to several lingering questions regarding this issue.
In response to claims made by Mr. Bright Simmons, Dr. Boamah took to Facebook on April 27, 2024, to highlight specific concerns.
In Mr Bright Simmons' post on X formerly known as Twitter, he pointed out that substantial amounts of money were spent on acquiring these gadgets, yet they are now being sold for scrap at significantly lower prices.
Additionally, Mr Simons noted that thousands of these gadgets were purchased in 2016 and 2018 and should not have become obsolete, as they are exclusively used during elections.
On the other hand, Dr. Omane stressed the importance of conducting a bi-partisan parliamentary inquiry into the matter, asserting that it is imperative for transparency and accountability.
He emphasized that such an investigation is non-negotiable, given the gravity of the situation and the need for clarity regarding the loss of these crucial electoral tools.
