I just want to bring back Nkrumah’s state-enterprises – Kyiri Abosom
Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has reaffirmed his party's dedication to reviving the state enterprises established by Ghana's first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Osofo Kyiri Abosom said this initiative aims to empower Ghanaians to produce goods domestically, thereby fostering self-sufficiency and boosting exports to generate revenue.
Expressing concern over the shortcomings of Ghana's educational system, Osofo Kyiri Abosom criticised what he describes as a "chew and pour" approach, which he believes hampers practical skills development.
He highlighted the irony of Ghanaian professors' inability to manufacture basic items, lamenting the neglect of Dr Nkrumah's state enterprises, which he claims have been abandoned for many years.
“A professor in Ghana cannot even manufacture pen, he can’t do anything so we just chew and pour, we want to bring back Nkrumah’s own state-enterprises, which have been left in bushes, it has been abandoned for so many years.”
"We just want to bring those things back," Osofo Kyiri Abosom emphasised, stressing the importance of revitalising these enterprises to enable domestic production and facilitate export opportunities, thereby contributing to economic growth.
Osofo Kyiri Abosom made these remarks during an appearance on the Class Morning Show on Class91.3FM on Monday, April 29, 2024.
