Retired customs officers bemoan paltry GHS1000 annual medical allowance
Retired customs officers under the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have expressed their dissatisfaction with the annual medical bill of GHS1000, considering it grossly inadequate.
The retired officers voiced their concerns during a gathering organised by the Retired Customs Officers Association.
Expressing their discontent, the retired officers emphasised the inadequacy of the annual medical allowance, particularly considering their dedicated service to an agency that generated substantial revenue for the state.
They lamented that the current amount falls short of covering their medical expenses adequately.
Mr Ernest Samuel Ackaye, the President of the Association, urged members to exhibit patience and allow the leadership to address the matter with management.
While empathising with the retirees, he also appealed to them to be mindful of their dietary choices, advising against consuming junk food during retirement.
He suggested that members engage in activities such as backyard farming to stay occupied and exercised.
During an interview on Accra 100.5 FM's mid-day news on Thursday, August 22, 2024, Mr Bismark Kissi, Deputy Revenue Commissioner at GRA, assured the retired officers that their grievance would be addressed to bring relief to the members.
He conveyed management's commitment to collaborating with the Senior Staff Association to establish a social center, promoting socialisation among retired customs officers.
