Ejisu by-election: Disregard video, it didn’t happen in Ghana, it’s aimed at tarnishing our image – EC tells Ghanaians
The Electoral Commission (EC) has dispelled concerns over the integrity of the electoral process during the recent by-election held in the Ejisu constituency.
This is in response to a viral video circulating on social media, purportedly depicting electoral malpractice during the recent by-election in Ejisu.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, Samuel Tettey, the commission, asserted that the video is unrelated to the EC's activities or the Ejisu by-election.
The EC outlined key disparities between the video and established EC procedures to discredit its authenticity.
“The vest the Ghana Electoral Commission uses for its operations is blue,” it emphasised.
“The official in the video is wearing a green vest. The second person seen in the video is wearing an orange vest. As stated, the Electoral Commission of Ghana uses a blue vest for its Operation Staff,” it further explained.
Highlighting further inconsistencies, the EC noted that the depicted polling station was enclosed, contrary to its practice of conducting voting in open spaces. It also pointed out the absence of labelled ballot boxes and insufficient police presence compared to EC standards.
It, therefore, urged the “public to disregard the video,” while stressing that the video, “is aimed at tarnishing the image and credibility” of the EC.
It added: “The events in the video did not occur in Ghana. It has nothing to do with the Electoral Commission of Ghana.”
The EC further reiterated its commitment to conducting credible, fair, and transparent elections in 2024, amid the proliferation of misinformation.
