Distribution of textbooks to public schools starts next week: Minister
Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has affirmed that the distribution of textbooks to enhance academic activities in basic schools will commence next week.
He stated that the textbooks would be transported to the regional warehouses of the Ghana Education Service for subsequent distribution to basic schools.
"We have eliminated all the bottlenecks that previously caused delays in the distribution of textbooks," he assured.
Dr Adutwum further assured that the Ghana Post Company Limited has been enlisted to facilitate the distribution of textbooks to teachers and pupils nationwide, ensuring a seamless learning process.
He mentioned that the ministry had successfully addressed challenges with publishers to expedite the process.
The minister provided these assurances during a meeting with members of the Private Newspaper and Online Publishers Association of Ghana (PRIMPAG) to discuss the future of the education sector in Accra.
He emphasised that the ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), had made changes to the content of certain courses.
Dr Adutwum highlighted the reintroduction of history subjects into the Social Studies curriculum to instil patriotism in students, expressing concern that students complete 14 years of basic education without knowledge of Ghana's history.
This, he noted, was unacceptable to say the least, all because people who do not understand the sector were made to lead the sector.
He asserted his expertise as an educationist and touted reforms under his tenure.
He promised that Ghanaians would soon witness reforms in the sector, particularly with the introduction of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
"STEM schools have been established in ten regions nationwide to transform basic education and make public schools more appealing to parents," he said.
