'No one above the law!': Court orders CID boss' arrest for 'blatant' disregard of summonses
The High Court in Accra has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of two high-ranking officials within the Ghana Police Service.
This move comes after the Director General (DG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the DG of the Legal and Prosecution Unit, repeatedly failed to appear in court to address alleged contempt charges.
The court's decision follows an application by Sureword Global Outreach, seeking the release of an impounded vehicle, registration number GN 2925-20.
Despite the court's orders, the police officials continued to disregard summonses, leading to the issuance of the bench warrant.
During Monday's proceedings, Counsel for the applicant, Mr Abraham Arthur, sought the committal of the CID boss and the DG of the Legal and Prosecution Unit for contempt.
The court found the respondents' actions as a blatant refusal to adhere to its directives, prompting the issuance of the arrest warrants.
The court had previously ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure the appearance of the mentioned officials, yet they remained absent.
The court noted that no one is above the law and noted evidence indicating that its orders had been duly served on the IGP.
In light of this, the bench warrant was issued for the arrest of the respondents.
