Mr Drew sued by Jamrok Bar & Event Centre for absence at agreed-upon Easter event
Mr Drew has been sued by Jamrok Bar and Event Centre and its CEO Patrick Kwabena Addo.
In a writ of summons issued at Senchi by the Districk Magistrate Court on Monday, April 15, 2024, the plaintiff, Jamrok Bar & Event Centre and Mr Patrick Kwabena Addo, is demanding “the recovery of GHS15,000 it paid to 1st defendant” Andrew Nii Commey Otoo, professionally known as Mr Drew, “to perform” at an Easter event organised by the plaintiff, “but failed to do so and the refund of the money annulled since 12 February 2024”.
The plaintiff also seeks “an order for the recovery of special damages amounting to GHS36,511.00 being direct costs incurred by the plaintiff in connection with the event” and “general damages of GHS200,000.00 against the defendants, for the severe damage caused to the plaintiff’s brand as a result of the cancellation of the event”.
The Jamrok & Event Centre event, Easter Dance Party with Mr Drew, was slated for Monday, April 1, 2024.
According to organisers of the event, the Afropop star declined to perform at the event despite receiving 50 per cent of his agreed performance fee ahead of the event, and recording a video to confirm his appearance and performance as the headlining act.
"All was set for the event to take place but the artiste, Mr. Drew, pulled out of the event when he was to mount the stage without any reason or explanation to the organizers," organisers said in a presser dated April 2, 2024.
"On the day of the event, Mr drew arrived and checked into his hotel around 3pm, in the company of three other team members, and he was to relax and get ready for the event in the evening. All the other artistes on the bill had also arrived and in their hotels.
“At around 12:30am, the organizers tried calling the artiste to come and perform but there was no response from his team, hence the organizers drove to the hotel and found they were fast asleep. After sometime, Mr Drew and his team finally came out of the hotel and sat in their car and drove off."
