The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has voiced its concerns over the ongoing limited voter registration exercise, urging the Electoral Commission to address the technical challenges hampering the process. 

The exercise, which began on May 7, 2024, has been marred by issues such as internet connectivity and technical glitches, leading to delays in registration.

Monday marked the commencement of a crucial 21-day limited voter registration exercise organized by the Electoral Commission (EC) across the nation. 

Targeting first-time voters and individuals seeking to obtain a voter card, the exercise aims to register approximately 623,000 new voters, as revealed by EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa.

However, the rollout of the exercise has been far from smooth. 

On Monday, scores of first-time voters experienced significant delays, with some unable to have their names enrolled on the voters' roll for over five hours due to technical glitches and internet connectivity issues at several EC centers.

In response to these challenges, Mr Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections for the NPP, condemned the actions of the EC, particularly in light of assurances given during the last Inter-Party Advisory Committee meeting.

Mr Nimarko emphasised the need for the EC to fulfil its promises and address the issues promptly to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM's morning news programme on Tuesday, May 8, 2024, Mr Nimako urged the EC to "walk the talk" and take immediate steps to remedy the situation, thereby restoring confidence in the registration process among stakeholders.

"We are disappointed by the technical challenges encountered during the limited voter registration exercise. 

The Electoral Commission must honour its commitments and take swift action to resolve these issues for the sake of a seamless exercise," Mr Evans Nimako, Director of Elections, NPP, said.
