Sekondi High Court lifts injunction on NDC's Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s candidacy for Amenfi Central
The Sekondi High Court in the Western Region has lifted the injunction that had prevented Miss Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Amenfi Central, from contesting in the upcoming Parliamentary election.
The decision, delivered on Monday, November 11, 2024, comes after a previous adjournment on November 7.
The NDC had appealed to the court to overturn the disqualification of its candidate and allow her to participate in the December 7 election.
His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh presided over the case.
Earlier in the proceedings, Ms Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s lead counsel, Edudzie Tamakloe, urged the court to expedite the case, noting that further delays could infringe upon her right to stand in the election.
His Lordship Gyan-Kontoh acknowledged the need for a timely resolution and encouraged both parties to consider an out-of-court settlement, though no agreement was reached.
With today’s ruling, Joana Gyan Cudjoe is now cleared to run in the Amenfi Central Parliamentary race.
Expressing gratitude after the court’s decision, she said, “We thank God for everything that has happened today, especially my new lawyers who came in to rescue me… I thank God and all the NDC members, executives, and all the Western Region NDC. I must say I am very happy.”
