Leverage impact of AI on book industry - MEST director
Madam Emile Fiagbedzi, the Director of Training at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), has urged members of the Ghana Publishers Association to embrace the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to expand their audience engagement and creativity within the industry.
Madam Fiagbedzi emphasised that AI presents a novel opportunity to enhance creativity and productivity, rather than being perceived as a threat to traditional publishing roles.
She encouraged publishers not to fear the integration of AI into their processes, highlighting platforms like ChatGPT as valuable tools for writers and publishers alike.
Speaking at the launch of the 21st International Book Fair organised by the Ghana Publishers Association, themed 'Books and Culture in the Era of Artificial Intelligence', Madam Fiagbedzi underscored AI's capabilities in improving grammar, editing, and content creation.
She also noted its potential to analyze reader behaviour and trends, thereby assisting writers in crafting more engaging and relevant content.
Madam Fiagbedzi further emphasised AI's role in expanding the reach of written content across various platforms and facilitating accessibility for People with Disabilities (PWADs) through text-to-speech translation capabilities.
While acknowledging concerns about potential job disruptions due to AI integration, Madam Fiagbedzi asserted that AI should be viewed as a beneficial tool for fostering creativity and innovation within the publishing industry.
In his welcome address, Mr Asare Konadu Yamoah, Chairman of the International Book Fair and President of the Ghana Publishers Association, announced the fair's schedule from August 8 to 11, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
He encouraged association members to embrace technological advancements in the digital era to stay relevant and competitive in the evolving publishing landscape.
