AG’s advice to EOCO apt - Anti-corruption crusader
Mr Emmanuel Wilson, an anti-corruption advocate, has expressed support for the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice's decision to advise the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to halt the prosecution of former Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah.
Mr Wilson stated that he was not surprised by the Attorney-General's office's stance when EOCO sought guidance on prosecuting Madam Dapaah for alleged money laundering, as suggested by the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP).
He criticised the OSP, accusing it of concealing information in the case, citing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's assertion that he believed Madam Dapaah was innocent and would prevail.
Speaking during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s evening news on Thursday, May 2, 2024, Mr Wilson, the Executive Director of Corruption Crusaders, Ghana, endorsed the Attorney-General's position.
He claimed that the OSP's actions were aimed at exonerating Madam Dapaah and accused it of withholding crucial information from EOCO, leading to its decision to pursue legal action that lacked substantial evidence.
Mr Wilson criticised Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, for presenting weak arguments in court, alleging that the OSP's case relied more on emotions than concrete evidence.
He stressed the importance of evidence-based prosecution rather than relying on sentiments.
Mr Wilson expressed satisfaction with former President John Mahama's decision to revisit the issue if he wins the December 7, general elections.
