SHS: Feedback from heads of schools, students show satisfaction with quality of food served – Education Ministry
The Ministry of Education has said the schools visited during its comprehensive nationwide visitation and monitoring exercise with the media, and reports from other schools, indicate the maintenance of an adequate stock of food in their storage in their facilities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 3 March 2024, signed by its Spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, the Ministry of Education revealed there is “prompt and up-to-date payment of funds allocated for the purchase of perishable food items to all schools”.
According to the Education Ministry, “feedback from heads of schools and students indicates overall satisfaction with the quality and quantity of food being served”.
The Ministry revealed it was “open to remedying any real anomaly found anywhere”.
It also reassured parents, students and the general public of their unwavering commitment to providing adequate, high-quality and timely food supplies to ensure an enhanced free and quality Senior High School programme.
The Ministry embarked on a comprehensive nationwide visitation and monitoring exercise with the media with the objective of gaining insight into issues of poor feeding and irregular food supply in the country’s Senior High Schools (SHS).
This came on the back of a documentary by Accra-based Joy FM highlighting issues of poor feeding in the some of the country’s SHSs.
The Ministry, therefore, asked the media house to “exercise circumspection, fairness and responsibility in its reportage, particularly when it pertains to the well-being of students”.
