Kwahu-Bepong: Court remands all suspects to reappear on Feb 23
The Nkawkwa District Court in the Eastern Region has remanded all the suspects in the Kwahu-Bepong case.
They are to reappear on February 23, 2024.
In all, 37 suspects were put before the court presided by His Worship Isaac Adjei
The Ghana Police Service had earlier apprehended some 46 individuals in connection with the attacks on the Bepong Chief’s palace and police officers.
It followed the initial arrest of 25 people linked to the assault, which brought the total detainees to 71.
The suspects were involved in an attack on the Bepong Chief's Palace on February 4, 2024, resulting in injuries to seven people, including five police officers.
Security and order have since been restored in Bepong.
The incident unfolded when the police attempted to rescue an alleged suspect, Kwasi Tenkorang, accused of raping and murdering a 45-year-old woman in Adwumasu.
The rescue mission led to a clash with the community, resulting in two deaths from alleged stray police bullets.
The suspect was later arrested, sparking community outrage and an attack on the Chief’s palace.
