Nana Amoako Poku is Offinsohene-elect
Nana Amoako Poku, a 68-year-old member of the Offinso Ahyirem Royal Family, has been designated as the Offinsohene-elect.
Nana Amoako Poku was presented at the final Asanteman Council meeting of 2023 in Kumasi on December 18, 2023.
During the crucial Asanteman Council meeting chaired by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Offinso Queen mother was notably absent when the Offinso vacant stool case was brought forward.
In line with Asante tradition, Kwakwaboa Abusuapanyin, Opanyin Yaw Nkrumah Adusah, assumed the responsibility of updating the Asantehene on the status of the vacant stool and the family's process in choosing a royal successor.
Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong, who had been nominated by the Queen mother as a candidate for the vacant position but was rejected by the Asantehene, was conspicuously absent during the meeting.
Supporters of Dr Sarpong, who were present, quietly withdrew as the nomination did not find favor with the Asantehene.
In light of the Queen mother's repeated inability to nominate a qualified royal for the vacant stool, the Abusuapanyin, in consultation with the royal family, took charge of nominating Nana Amoako Poku as the Offinsohene-elect.
This decision followed Asante tradition and aims to fill the leadership void that persisted due to the Queen mother's unsuccessful nominations.
The Asantehene encouraged unity and continuity within the Offinso Ahyirem Royal Family as they prepare for the installation of their newly elected leader.
