The Electoral Commission (EC) has boasted substantial cost savings in election expenditures in terms of procurement. Chairperson Jean Mensa announced in a press statement on Monday, 6 May 2024 that the EC successfully slashed the cost per voter from $13 in 2016 to $7 in 2020.

As a result, she said the EC "saved our nation a substantial amount of $90 million,”

Mrs Mensa attributed this achievement to the commission's commitment to enhancing efficiency and transparency, particularly through the implementation of an open competitive bidding process since 2020. 

With nearly 95% of procurements advertised in local newspapers, the EC said it aimed to secure value for money while fostering competition among suppliers, thereby driving down procurement costs significantly.

She emphasised that this approach has not only ensured cost-effectiveness in obtaining services and materials but has also injected healthy competition into the procurement process, leading to substantial savings for the nation.
