Prioritise well-being of teachers else we shall advise ourselves – CCT-GH to Finance Minister
The Coalition of Concerned Teachers-GH (CCT-GH) in the Kumasi Metropolis, has registered its displeasure with government over the blatant disregard for the welfare of its members as a result of continuous delay in releasing their mutual funds and welfare dues deduction.
According to the Coalition, this unfortunate situation began about a year and a half ago and continues to affect all the managers of the teacher’s unions under the third-party reference system (TPRS) at the Controller and Accountant, General Department (CAGD).
In a statement issued on Sunday, 10 March 2024, the coalition noted: “This deliberate haircut said by the Minister after meeting the IMF is leaving many teachers facing financial uncertainties.”
The coalition further noted that the “mutual funds and the welfare dues are critical components” of its members’ financial security by providing a safety and affordable financial loan for teachers as compared to the banks’ loan rate.
It also indicated that the delay in “disbursing” the funds of its members to access loans is not only affecting individual teachers but rather has “a broader implication for the education system's stability and the overall well-being of the students.”
The coalition, hence, urged the Financial Minister, to prioritise the well-being of teachers by immediately releasing the “withheld mutual funds and welfare dues accrued barely six months” to its Fund Managers and the Leadership for the needful things to be done for peace to prevail in the education system.
The coalition has, therefore, given government up to next month ending, after which if these accrued funds and dues are not released, its members shall advise themselves “accordingly.”
