George Darko: 40-day observance for Burger Highlife originator, Akropong-Akuapem royal begins May 1
A 40-day observation has been announced for George Darko.
The Burger Highlife originator, a man of royal stock, was the Okoman Tufuhene of Akropong-Akuapem and served his people bearing the stool name Nana Ampem Darko I.
George Darko passed on March 20, 2024, at 73. He was popular from the 1970s to 1990s, a beloved guitarist, singer-songwriter and composer. His hits included: Ako Te Brofo, Highlife Time, Mensei Da, and Odo Colour.
His announced observance begins on May 1, 2024, at PUC Park (Old Salem), Akropong-Akuapem, from 8AM to 5 PM.
All friends and sympathisers are cordially invited, according to his family.
Meanwhile, Burger Highlife was birthed as a mix of Highlife in the 70s, Funk and Disco, by Ghanaian immigrants in Germany, collaborating with German musicians and producers. Some prominent Burger Highlife greats are Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong, once known as Lumba Brothers; Charles Amoah and Lee Dodou.
