Afronitaa Official (Facebook): The climax for Afronitaa and Abigail's Britain's Got Talent audition

On YouTube, almost a million people have watched the fantastic performance by Ghanaian dancers Afronitaa and Abigail on the Britain's Got Talent (BGT) stage.

Afronitaa, 20, is a dance sensation who made a name dancing with DWP Academy. She joined in 2018.

Abigail, 7, was crowned the champion of the TV3 Talented Kidz 14th season.

According to Afronitaa, in a Delay interview, she first saw Abigail on social media, and while she watched in awe, she was covered in goosebumps. She searched for Abigail's contact and since meeting physically, they have been inseparable, with Afronitaa becoming Abigail's mentor.

As the two faced BGT judges Simon, Amanda, Alesha and Bruno, Afronitaa noted though Abigail could pick up "loud sounds," she mostly could hear via a hearing aid in her left ear. She added Abigail also perceived sounds feeling vibrations in her feet and chest.

"Abigail doesn't understand sign language" yet, Afronitaa said, explaining: "We communicate through body movements and gestures."

Describing Abigail as a big fan of BGT, she said their "plan" was "to make Simon smile" and, "with the Ghanaian energy," they meant "to shut down the whole auditorium". They did just that, receiving a standing ovation from the packed auditorium.

Afronitaa indicated they were supported, in the audience, by her Aunt and her daughter, and Abigail's mother.

The dance duo, clad in yellow t-shirts with kente sleeves and trousers with kente pockets, spread out a Ghana flag on the stage before beginning their dance set.

All the songs they danced to were by Ghanaian-British singer and rapper Fuse ODG, starting with his Antenna.

Following the performance, Amanda remarked: “So joyous, so brilliant, so much fun. Hands down, you are two of the most fantastic dancers we have ever had on Britain’s Got Talent.”

Bruno exclaimed: “Oh my god, you two are dancing queens! Your choreography, I tell you, was world-class.”

“Both of you a just a breath of fresh air. That’s just natural God-given talent that you’re born with. I loved it,” Alesha declared.

Simon commended Afronitaa’s mentorship, and predicted the audition would bring the duo good fortune.

“What you’ve done, as a mentor, is just the most wonderful story. It really, really, is. When this goes out, I really believe your lives are going to change for the better. This is one of my favourite auditions of the year,” he said.

"Disability is not inability," Afronitaa underlined in a video which documented a bit of their history as a duo.

Though Afronitaa and Abigail did not get the golden buzzer, they earned four yes votes from all judges, and walked away teary and elated. Ghana and its diaspora will keenly follow the journey of these inspiring dancers on the hit reality TV show.

Meanwhile, Afronitaa has exited DWP and set up a dance school called Afrokids Academy for grooming dance talents aged 3 to 12. Afrokids Academy was launched on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
